We come together to dance, to speak Latvian, to share traditions and to feel that sense of home, even while living in the UK.
We meet each week not just to rehearse, but to spend time together, support one another and pass our culture on to the next generation. For us, it’s about community, friendship and keeping our Latvian roots alive through dance.

Who are we?
Rokraksts is a community, non profit Latvian folk dance group based in Leicester. We were formed in February 2024 by people who simply wanted to bring Latvians together through dance and shared culture.
Since then, we’ve been actively taking part in events both locally and abroad, representing Latvian traditions with pride. We are a group of dancers, families and friends who volunteer our time to keep our culture alive and visible within the wider community.

Can I join Rokraksts?
Yes. We welcome new members throughout the year. If you enjoy dancing, meeting people and being part of a community, you’re very welcome to come along and try a rehearsal.
No experience is needed. We’ll teach you everything step by step. All that matters is willingness to learn and be part of the group.
Do I need dance experience?
Do I need to be Latvian?
Not at all. While we celebrate Latvian culture, you don’t have to be Latvian to join. We’re proud to have members from different backgrounds who simply love dancing and being part of our community.
Yes. We ask for a £15 monthly contribution which helps cover hall hire, costumes and general running costs. As a non profit group, this keeps everything going.
Is there a membership fee?
Rehearsals are relaxed but focused. We work hard, we laugh a lot, and we support each other. It’s as much about community as it is about performance.
Practices are held every Sunday 6PM-9PM
at Oak Centre, Bendbow Rise, Leicester LE3 1QA
